Mexican Cinema Cinépolis Installs 2,600 ALPD® Laser Light Source Solutions

Cinépolis, the fourth largest cinema operator in the world, recently announced plans to upgrade 2,600 screens with ALPD® laser light source solutions. Cinépolis is Mexico’s largest cinema operator and has been in operation for 51 years. The company plans to complete the ALPD® laser light source upgrade in 19 countries around the world, including local areas in Mexico. Cinépolis chose the ALPD® laser light source for its following benefits:

1. An eco-friendly and energy-saving solution with lower electricity costs

With superior energy efficiency and performance, the ALPD® laser light source has enabled efficient and low-carbon projection experience, assisting global cinemas in achieving green development. This has significantly reduced the energy bills for these theaters. In this regard, a manager stated that ALPD® laser light sources consume nearly 70% less electricity than conventional light sources while still offering the same brightness. This would save a significant amount of electricity for Cinépolis across its numerous theaters.

2. A longer projector life and lower labor costs

When the light output of a cinema's projector falls below a certain threshold, the theater must typically make a sizable investment to replace the light source. An ALPD® laser upgrade, however, can improve the projection brightness, slow the rate of brightness decay, and extend the projector's life to 15 years. The ALPD® laser light source has a service life of 30,000 hours. Cinemas that use ALPD® instead of xenon do not need replace light sources every 7 to 8 years, which minimizes labor expenses and increases operational efficiency.

3. Brighter, clearer, and more vivid viewing experiences

One of the most notable benefits of an ALPD® laser light source upgrade is improved image quality. Cinépolis will upgrade many of its projectors to ALPD® laser light sources in an effort to provide moviegoers with brighter, clearer, and more vivid images. It also expands the viewing options available to moviegoers while enhancing their overall experience.
