In 2020, he was named one of the pioneering innovators and model figures for the 40th anniversary of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and received the Shenzhen Mayor’s Award for Science and Technology. Ning has devoted his career to research on semiconductor optoelectronic devices, achieving multiple record‑breaking results and cutting‑edge accomplishments. He is a leading figure in the field of semiconductor nanolasers and devices both in China and abroad, and is recognized as the inventor of the white laser.

He currently serves as chair professor at Shenzhen Technology University, dean of the College of Integrated Circuits and Optoelectronic Chips, doctoral supervisor, and adjunct professor at Tsinghua University. He also serves as a director of Appotronics.

Ning previously served as a senior scientist at NASA AMES Research Center, where he founded and led the nanooptics research group and later served as the nanotechnology program manager. In 2006, he was a visiting professor at the Institute for Solid State Physics at the University of Tokyo. From 2006 onward, he held the position of tenured professor in the School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering at Arizona State University, and also served as an adjunct professor in the Department of Physics and the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. In 2013, he was a visiting professor at Berlin Institute of Technology, Tsinghua University, and other institutions. 

In 2012, he was selected as a nationallevel highend talent. From 2014, he served as a tenured professor in the Department of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University. In 2018, he founded the Tsinghua International Center for Nanooptoelectronics and served as its inaugural director.

In 2016, he was honored with the Scientific Chinese Person of the Year award. In 2023, he was selected as a Class A talent under Shenzhen's Pengcheng Peacock Plan.

Ning is a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, a fellow of Optica, and a member of The Electromagnetics Academy and the National Academy of Inventors.

She previously served as a senior manager in investment banking at Western Securities, a senior investment manager in the strategic development center of Konka Group, the finance head of a Konka subsidiary, and an investment director at Konka Capital. Since September 2023, she has been the head of strategic investment at Appotronics. 

Female, born in January 1983, Chinese national, with no permanent residency abroad. She holds a doctoral degree in management accounting. She currently serves as an associate professor and master’s supervisor at Xiamen National Accounting Institute, director of the management accounting and financial management research institute at Xiamen National Accounting Institute, and also serves as an independent director of Appotronics, an independent director of XTC New Energy Materials (Xiamen), an independent director of Hengerda New Materials (Fujian), an independent director of Zonergy (non-listed), a member of the management accounting professional committee of the Accounting Society of China, deputy secretarygeneral of the Xiamen accounting society, and a supervisor of the Xiamen association of non-party intellectuals.
